Ten J/22′s got ready to play in the rain at this year’s Leukemia Cup Regatta at BSC. Howver, the rain held off on day one and the RC got off 3 races in a building breeze. Sean and Bob ended the day tied for 1st with Wayne breathing down their backs. Team Shazam showed its new found light air speed and was in 4th.
The Mount Gay Rum party kicked off a great evening of fun and set the stage for a record breaking fundraising auction to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Italian dinner by Ziggy was a real crowd pleaser.
On Sunday we again had wind and no rain. Sean and Vincent had their game in high gear, with each taking a 1st and a 2nd to finish the regatta strong. Sean took the bullet in the first race to build an insurmountable lead. But every thing else was up for grabs in the last race. Almost everyone arived at the last leeward mark at the same time. The fleet made it around without incident, and the sprint to the finish was on. Vincent held off Sean to take the bullet.
Overall, Sean took 1st, Bob held on to 2nd, Vincent ended in 3rd, and Wayne took 4th. Overall it was a great regatta, with lots of close racing througout the fleet.
